No more hiding in the server room

So I have all the hardware I can justify including an upto date computer. Yet I'm still earning money, I want to spend it on something "investmently". I have for a while been contemplating a nice chair, it always seems to come back to the Harman Millers but personally I am put off by the what is quite clearly price fixing on the part of Harman Miller. There is the up side to this that when the stores cannot compete in price they do to service and free shipping. So anyway back on topic I'm not going to spoil the debate about this by giving my current leanings, there should be a number of people working on awesome chairs could any of you be kind enough to share your experiences?
PS: I know I really should check out a showroom but I would feel guilty about going to one and then buying online for less.
PSS: If I could I would love to buy used but the market seems to have dried up since the bust and Craigslist Calgary and Kijiji Calgary all have no listing for "Harman Miller".

You may not find them on craigslist because you're using the incorrect spelling.

The correct spelling is - herman miller

They are great chairs and I've had them in pretty much every IT job I've had. Sure they cost a lot new but ebay or craigslist should have some.

Given the number of companies going bust these days I dont think you will struggle to find one :)

Wow youre right, all this time google has just been giving me the Herman miller results. Useing the correct term now brings up a few results. Looks though like the down turn has not done much damage to Calgary, there is only one herman miller desk chair for sale.so now the choice is between going used and saving $300 or getting the colour I want and a warrenty.
Ok so I've ordered the Herman Miller Mirra new from a Canadian site, only $340 more then getting it used gets me a warranty and the colour I want. From all my reading is seems nice chairs are very subjective thing since most people only really try one type.
I think technically it's Herman Miller, but yeah, I would pretty much recommend an Aeron if you can find one. I don't know what your price range is, but on Ebay they're going for a few hundred without bids.

I figured that someone else has asked the question, and I saw a list on the home parents section on about.com.

Really, I'm afraid that to be happy, you'll probably have to go to one of the local shops, as you feared. I don't know for certain, but I figure that they will work with you on the price, within reason. You could at least bring it up. Large ticket items (and multi-hundred dollar chairs certainly qualify) can usually be negotiated for.

Worse comes to worse, tell them you're writing an online review of various chair models for an internet article, and offer to give them some free publicity when you write it. Write the article, send them the url, then use your results to buy the chair from the internet :-) Win/Win

EDIT

Ugh. I should have rread the rest of the thread ;-) Sorry!
Yeah the Aeron is famous and I could have gotten one for only $50 more. I choice the Mirra though since it appears to have been designed closer to how I like to sit, for instance I often sit on my legs and I read somewhere that such a position would be painful on the Aeron. Now I hope you store would hurry up, I hate this current chair.
I'd settle for something that doesn't squeak... and something where I don't have to tighten the bolts on it every couple of weeks... Unfortunately, our supplier of office equipment is Wal-Mart or Office Depot...
LOL.

WD40 and locktite are your friends if you have a chair like that.

:-)

Seriously, if you are looking for office furniture, look for local liquidators in your area. You can find new and used office equipment for a lot less than at a retail establishment, and some under factory warranty.
