The SysAdmin Network

No more hiding in the server room

Hello Guys;

How we can as sys-admins to do a portfolio of our work or to show our experience either to be used in an interview or to be in a website.

this is just an idea , what do you think ?

You could create your own knowledge base? This is something I have started working on - mostly for personal purposes, but you could use it for that too.

Include project briefs, for instance "client required a highly available virtualised environment. the designed solution was XYZ. Along the way, we found these stumbling blocks that were resolved in ABC manner."

I have been installing and using as much software as possible... And documenting the processes, so that I understand how it works.

Writing a document listing the software and applications that you have used, and reference your own install documents is a good way to show off your skills.  Bonus points for including a USB drive with your documents, so that your interviewer can check your references.  This shows your ability to document your work, resolve issues that you find, and gives the impression that you know what you are talking about.
