Have You Tried Re-installing WSS on top of what is already there. This Should add what maybe missing from the original installation.
yes Donald.. i tried Reinstalliong but it does go further.. still i can see WSS in ADD n Remove and i cant install or unstall..i m stuck
Sounds like it could be a permissions issue, are you logged in with a service account or a local admin account with permisson to uninstall the product.
I m logged on as Domain/Schema,enterprize admin accunt
So WSS is installed on a Domain Controller or a Server that is a member of the domain. Check the Event Viewer on The Machine and look at the Application Events, to see what is happening with WSS, and also check the Security Events as well.
Nothing on the evernt...nothing in Security.. I wanna remove WSS somehow to reinstall..
If I remember correctly there is a service pack associated with it, see if you can install the SP on top of it. This may make it easier to uninstall
which servie pack?? u mean windows 2008 sp or wss 3.0 sp??
sp for wss
no it didn work..
ok You said that this is a Domain Controller, Correct?

But When you installed the WSS did you use the same account that you login with to install WSS, because even if 2 accounts have administrative permissions the WSS Database looks for the exact which it used to install.

Also Try This C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN\ you should find something called "stsadm.exe"

from the command Line type stsadm.exe -o uninstall.
This may force the uninstall to work.
I ran into this similar problem on my test box; although it was not on a DC, but I managed it to get it uninstalled. WSS 3.0 usually installed with the embedded Windows Internal Database (WID). You can try to remove the WID instance in regedit by running this command line:

If you are running an x86 based edition use
msiexec /x {CEB5780F-1A70-44A9-850F-DE6C4F6AA8FB} CALLERID=ocsetup.exe
If you are running an x64 based edition use
msiexec /x {BDD79957-5801-4A2D-B09E-852E7FA64D01} CALLERID=ocsetup.exe

Good luck.
