The SysAdmin Network

No more hiding in the server room

Hi all

July is going to be hardware month - and we have a prize to giveaway - a Slingbox Solo (worth $180).

Ask a colleague to take a photo of you with your favourite bit of hardware, post the photo on the Network, and then make a forum post telling us what it is and what is good about it

Then, early August, we can all have a vote on the best post, and the most popular one will win a Slingbox Solo.

So what do you all think? Come on, photograph and post away below!!!

I love the X4500, it’s the most unique piece of equipment we have. Its due to be replaced in 2 years with the next hardware refresh and I’m tempted to see if I can pick it up for my house at that point.

After all, if you had access to a server like this, would you take it the recyclers right away? Neither would I. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

This is a rack of mini-dell desktops that is being used as "drone" machines to facilitate automation scripts. At the time, this was an easier, cost effective performance decision. These drones are less than a month away from being virtualized and then repurposed as replacement machines in the facility.
wow, that's really cool. Rackmounting desktops for automation. Cool idea. I bet it makes your rows a lot quieter, too ;-)

VOTE - He just looks cool standing up against the rack. Like a SysAdmin should look.
Ok so my "coworker" didn't realize that cameras use longer exposure times in low light situations. So all the photos are blurry, this one is the least of all of them.

This server is my favorite peice of hardware not for what it is, thankfully since its just a P4 with a terabyte HDD, no it is my favorite because of what it represents. It represents the point at which my knowledge is complete enough and trusted enough for someone to entrust their data to. The server itself runs Ubuntu 9.40 and serves as a network storage and security camera server. I guess I also love it since it does use Linux, my personal server needs to run Windows due to a Brother scanner on the network who's software will not install under Windows Server 2008.

I do have a very cool toy, and once the IS team here have deployed the CRM system we've been writing for the last seven months TONIGHT... I'll take a photo of it. But in the meantime, who could NOT want one of these?
