I am on a new contract, and the client does not have a technical wiki. They are interested in having me set one up, but I am not sure what to use. I have worked with Confluence, and a few others that I don't know the names of. Due to budget considerations, it is likely that Confluence or other commercial products are not a viable option.
Could any of you chime in with recommendations? Particularly, I am hoping to benefit from someone else's research on this subject.
I am hoping to meet the following requirements:
Access control by user/group
WISIWIG option for data entry
Logical and simple markup language
Free or very cheap
Solaris distribution
Have you looked at Turnkeylinux.org , for some of their solutions? They have Live CD versions of most if not all of their offerings. I have used some of their solutions as testbed material, to get a feel of the installed software, and it it is easy use.
Depending on you specifications, you could set one these up in a VM, and host it on your local network.
I found a terrific website which does side-by-side comparisons of some 60 Wiki software. There are so many, I simply had to arbitrarily pick from among them to do the comparisons. The site is http://www.wikimatrix.org/. I think I am going to go with Xwiki.
