it is manually controlled using VNC.

Essentially, you run the synergy server on whichever machine is connected to the main keyboard and mouse, and you run the client on the peripheral machines. The server translates the keyboard and mouse movements across, so that all the computers act exactly like a single, multidesktop computer. It's magic. I've got it running between my desktop and my laptop, and I've set it up for a bunch of my users who have multiple computers. It's pretty much universally loved. Give it a shot, I'm sure you could use it with that setup!
