Ode to the Cage Nut

(Not a poet... so indulge me...)A little free form poetry that I was "inspired" to do...Oh! Cage Nut!Oh! Cage Nut!You suck. You're stupid.Stupid.Why would someone ever make you? What is the purpose? Only to harm?Stupid. Stupid. My hands bleed with you. You stupid piece of engineering. Why have square holes anyway? Those are stupid, too.Stupid.Clearly the purpose of you was to cut up my hand when trying to install you and 80 of your stupid friends. Stupid.Stupid.The guy who make you is a moron.I…See More

Finally have a little bit of time to give you my impressions of VMworld. As this was my first big tech conference, I can tell you that I was a little bit overwhelmed. I learned a LOT, however. The biggest messages this year from VMworld were…

Hi, Chris! No specific questions from me, but I look forward to hearing what's new, what VMWare is currently pushing, what are the hot topics... and don't forget you can post pictures if you see anything interesting. Thanks! Elizabeth

Report from VMworld

Lucky enough to be at VMworld this week in San Francisco. I'm learning a LOT. We currently have 10 VM's in production and will be ramping up to 60 by this time next year. I'm learning that there are some structural things I will go back and repair before moving forward and also learning about the new version 4 of VMWare which I will need to upgrade to before we move forward very farther.Plus, there's a lot of fun going on. The booths are pretty good and lots of swag.Anything you want me to find…See More

We also have a backup system that isn't great at virtualisation support and this is our proposed way forward. Our backup software is ARCserve (for Unix - not Windows as we have a mixed environment). We currently backup to a Sun SL48 tape…

I'd go ArcServe before I went BackupExec but that's me. Like all projects I'd start by asking the boss what the capital budget is. If that answer is zero then make the crappy solution you have work. If it's deep I'd look…

Backups Help...

Okay gang, I'm at a bit of a crossroads in our backup solution at my place. We are very clearly transitioning to virtualization VM Servers and are nearly 1/2 way complete. We have approximately 20 TB of data (that I know of) that I need to back up.We currently use NetWorker as our legacy backup solution. I have 5 tape arrays that have backed up various systems at various times. Including two Dell PowerVaults 136T's and a Sun L180. I am currently backing up to LTO2 and LTO3. Additionally, we've…See More

I'd settle for something that doesn't squeak... and something where I don't have to tighten the bolts on it every couple of weeks... Unfortunately, our supplier of office equipment is Wal-Mart or Office Depot...

We're actually hoping to de-expand from two server rooms down to one with the help of VMWare. We anticipate having about 90% of our servers virtualized this time next year. (I guess I'd better get to work!!)
