Wireless Bridging part 2

A few months back I had to build a bridge that connected a camera at a front gate to a firewall in a service building 500ft away. It worked fine, but the short distance and Line of sight made it easy…Continue

Point to Point Wireless Bridging

For those of us with smaller and constantly growing networks, where do you buy your keystones, quickport faceplates, cable, tools, etc? I use cat5ecableguy.com for mine, but was wondering if anyone…Continue

Port fowarding, IP Cameras, and a SonicWALL router

Does anyone have any familiarity with this? To describe my needs: We are in the process of having a wISP connection setup at a 100 horse barn. The intentions is to grant specific customers and staff members the ability to view our on-site IP cameras from their location. All cameras currently get recorded by a linux based QNAP NVR. When the wISP setup is complete, I plan on adding a static public IP for this device. But, I am worried about giving access to a security device online. I am thinking…See More

Wireless Bridging part 2

A few months back I had to build a bridge that connected a camera at a front gate to a firewall in a service building 500ft away. It worked fine, but the short distance and Line of sight made it easy as pie. Now, I have to bridge an office and a barn, the distance between the two locations is approximately 3000m, or 1.85 miles. Does anyone have any experience with this and can throw me some pointers. I have never bridged a distance this far, the 500ft bridge was my biggest so far. There is…See More

Hello Danny! Nice to have you here. So how small is small-scale? Like... a dozen PCs or less?

We have 7 PCs, 2 laptops in the main office, 2 PCs at the store, 2 PCs and 2 Laptops at the barns. On top of that, we also use 15 voip phones, 7 Ethernet connected printers, 15 IP cameras, a PoE timeclock....also have a VOIP server, two network video recorders, and a samba server that goes unused.

I think that counts as small.

Your 10 things lists are awesome. If I could post a pic of the label maker I just had delivered I would. Not long after reading that post on USB tools, I purchased a 64GB USB flash drive, and used YUMI to load it up with various boot utilities. After that I added portable Apps, driver packages for all the PCs, and  a 2GB collection of Genisis Roms.

Monday I get to audit 3 x 48 port patch panels, 4 x 24 port Ethernet smart switches, and a huge mess of cables at each. I think I will need more labels....
