I needed to setup BIND in order for it to work. Looks like it was the perfect storm with CUPS and SCO. After BIND was installed and running, they pulled the WAN cable and the printers did not pause. Greg

Is resolv.conf configured to check files before DNS for hosts? If you use IP addresses instead of host names in CUPS configs, does that help the problem?

Cups slow when gateway down

I have a SCO UNIX box that is having a issue.  When the internet is down, printing is very slow. I am running CUPS and the spoolers are based on the hostname in the local hosts file. I know this has to be some DNS issue. But what can I do to?

For the very few cases where we need an older printer on the network, I use a print server like the ones offered by Netgear. I've found the bigger ones (ie: designed for multiple printers) to be much more reliable than the smaller "single…

Backup solutions other than tape

What are other people doing for backups these days? I am looking for a solution that is portable, small, and holds at least 500GB. Tapes are starting to wear too fast in dirty environment. Need something that can be taken off-site or stored in a vault when not in use.

Greg replied to Danny's discussion 'can i connect Ultra VNC without STATIC IP ?'
Just sign up for a dynamic DNS service. I use DynamicDNS and I have a built-in client in my router. The router updates the dynamic IP address to the DynamicDNS server. So you pick a domain name that you want to associate to the server and you can…

It's a USB stick from HP loaded with VMWare ESXi. Boots off that and you can use 100% of your hard drives for you VMWare images.
