Strange DNS question

I appreciate this may be a strange question to ask. Apart from Sort Lists or Match Client lists/Views is there any way for DNS to selectively resolve names based on the subnet or IP from which the…Continue

Active Directory group naming convention

I finally went with Sort Lists! I needed two A records for a single Host each on a different subnet and I had to order the responses based on the subnet the request was made. It isn't as neat and tidy as I would like but I was been driven by…

More information first.... Is this a Windows or Linux DNS server resolving these requests? Single subnet or multi? Static IP addressing, or DHCP?

Strange DNS question

I appreciate this may be a strange question to ask. Apart from Sort Lists or Match Client lists/Views is there any way for DNS to selectively resolve names based on the subnet or IP from which the client is making the request.

I patch once a month. Our Desktops are handled by WSUS and our Servers are done via Windows Update. We patch during the third week of the month. We get a lot of questions from various quarters questioning our policy primarily from people who…

we use TYPE_ROLE_AREA_NAME for ours. For example: DIS_SWDEP_COMPANY_AutoCAD2010_fixed would be a distribution group used for software deployment across the whole company for AutoCAD2010 fixed licence. That's about as big as we get with the…

Active Directory group naming convention

We are having a debate about the naming convention of groups in Active Directory. Some want to follow the Microsoft advice to prefix security groups with sg- and distribution lists with dl- etc. Others would prefer to appply a suffix. And there are those who would prefer neither.  i.e.: Prefix groups with sg- (sg-group1)Suffix groups with -sg (group1-sg)no prefix or suffix        (group1)Those for a prefix argue that it will make searches and ordering of results easier for certain objects. Also…See More

Monitoring Active Directory on a Windows 2008 Domain Controller

I currently use Server Performance Advisor (SPA) along with a couple of other tools on my Windows 2003 Domain Controllers to monitor Active Directory health. We will be moving to Windows 2008 Domain Controllers in the near future. I was wondering if anyone has used the Performance and Reliability Monitor (PRM) and how it compares with SPA for monitoring Active Directory health. SPA provides good reports on System Health and LDAP requests but requries .Net 1.1.4322.We had Microsoft in a year or…See More
