First off a fair warning. The websites I'm going to mention below, as of this writing, WILL cause re-directs to various random malware sites if you perform the steps I'm going to mention below. If…Continue

Here's something that's always kind of been a curiosity of mine in the industry when it comes to people's opinions on titles and roles within the IT industry.  First off, I am a Network…Continue

I haven't had much luck finding an 'out of the box' solution for just what we're looking for. Some services, like Egnyte or OneHub, looked promising but wasn't 'an exact fit'. As such, the on staff developers we…

Yeah, it's so easy to sniff a password for FTP it's not funny.  I've been tempted to mess around with coming up with a solution to this problem too.  what I was after, was a simple easy to manage/install and VERY simple to…

I've had https://www.egnyte.com on my list to try out for some time for similar such use but have not yet.  If you try it out I'm sure we'd all love to hear your review.

Encrypted Alternative to FTP ideas

This is a project I'm taking on for 2012 so I figured I'd toss it out there to see if anyone had some ideas.Currently we host our own FTP for use in sending/receiving files from customers and vendors. As needed, we create Active Directory accounts for the various businesses and then email a contact their with their credentials. They then use whatever means their company uses to upload/download their files, often it's IE or we usually recommend FileZilla. In any event, this is a pain in the…See More

We don't need new networking tools & such too often so, if/when we generally just check our usual vendor for sundry items, which is pcconnection.com  For cable, I keep bulk boxes of Cat5e patch and riser cable on hand which we…

Makes sense. I've emailed the bar a couple times because they're basically arguing with me about it. They should be happy someone actually reported it. I also find it funny that the registrant's site is also poisoned. You'd think…

They do it by checking the referrer header sent by the browser which tells them the URL of the page where the link was from. It's usually done so that it's more difficult to detect that the web site has been hijacked, since people in the…

A weird malware site I came across that has me baffled

First off a fair warning. The websites I'm going to mention below, as of this writing, WILL cause re-directs to various random malware sites if you perform the steps I'm going to mention below. If this happens, just immediately Task Manager and close your browser and nothing will happen to your pc. Maybe some of you more experienced SysAdmin sorts have seen this before and know how they did it but I haven't, so here goes. I had a User accidentally find a malicious website while searching for a…See More

It would be interesting to do the same experiment with a Linux box and compare the results in some sort of graphic, although you would need to decide whether to use known vectors such as password protected SSH and VNC (of pretty much any flavour in…
