We have a small (about 1000) object collection of antiques and other art and historical items that we recently started tracking in TMS Lite, which is working out reasonably well. I'm not that hands-on with it any more, leaving it to a couple of…

Hey, what do you use there to manage the collection, out of interest, if you have a computer based collection management system?

Hi, Rob! No problem at all posting a vacancy. Just to be clear, we don't want recruiters spamming the network, but if you're a bona fide paid-up member (meaning that you post on Sys Admin topics too), then please feel free to look for…

Cambridge, UK help desk technician vacancy

HiI'm having trouble locating a statement on whether posting job ads here is considered good etiquette or not, so if it isn't Beth or Michael please reject/remove my post. We're looking for a help desk technician for a the support of a predominantly Windows based environment, based in Waterbeach, Cambridge, UK.  It isn't a very senior role, and the team is pretty small, but it's a varied one with scope to expand, technically, and a reasonably 'safe' place to work.  If anyone knows of anyone, let…See More

In my surviving windows toolbox I have quotefix. It makes it so much easier to properly bottom post when replying to an email.

Excellent Outlook add-ons (from someone who misses Notes)

I'm probably a bit of a masocist, but I can't help but miss Lotus Notes. Whilst I have to admit that now I'm looking after Exchange my users complain a lot less about their mail client, there were just so many cool little tweaks available in Notes, and adding your own (if you didn't mind doing a bit of coding) was so easy. One addon that I really missed when I switched to Outlook/Exchange was Swiftfile (http://www.research.ibm.com/swiftfile/),…See More

IT Service Company SLA/T&C ?

HiDoes anyone have a boiler plate SLA and T&C for an IT service company ? We're trying to retain someone to help with on-site cover for our Irish operation, but none of the local companies seem to like formal contracts, and want an example of what they should be giving us. We won't sign a contract without some formal documentation.RobSee More

I'm actually looking for exactly the same thing, I think. For us they key is that it's very light-weight, so that we can put all changes through it, even very small ones. e.g. My network manager wants to make a very minor tweak to a…

The Social Enterprise

I have had a request to approve the use of Microsoft Live Office (their hosted social enterprise solution) which I'd prefer to service using an internal service (it's a bit of a server hugging company here at the moment). This looks OK for document sharing and discussion, and I've installed it and quite like it :http://www.o3spaces.com/Page/sp88/ml2/nctrue/index.htmlThis one looks a bit more full featured, but is still beta…See More

Paul, I'm glad you share my enthusiasm for OSSEC - personally, I can't imagine critical systems without it now. We run a mixture of tipping point and Trustwave IP Angel IDS systems for the network (the burden of PCI DSS) but I'm…

Sadly the OSS release of CT never happened, changes in management, etc. The system is still in use, but not by me as I moved on. The system had lots of areas that would benefit from improvements, but the day to day use was, IMO, very slick and low…
